In recent months and years we have seen the return and rise of antisemitism across Europe and around the world. But how has antisemitism mutated over time? And why does its return today present a danger not just for Jews, but for all who care about our common humanity?

PANORAMA - IS LABOUR ANTI-SEMITIC?
ESClad 10th July 2019  (59.05)
Panorama goes inside the anti-Semitism crisis gripping Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party. With exclusive interviews from key insiders and access to confidential communications and documents, this is the story of how the crises developed. Reporter John Ware reveals the evasions and contradictions at the heart of the political party which leader Jeremy Corbyn says has anti-racism
 at its very core.

LABOUR ANTISEMITISM ALLEGATIONS FOLLOWING BBC DOCUMENTARY
Julia Hartley-Brewer  talkRADIO 11 Jul 2019 (27.15)
Labour and party leader Jeremy Corbyn have been condemned after a BBC Panorama programme investigating claims of anti-Semitism in its ranks was broadcast.
Eight people told Panorama they were undermined in their attempts to tackle anti-Semitism in the party.  Former officials alleged that Labour's director of communications, Seumas Milne, and its general secretary, Jennie Formby, interfered with investigations.

Four of those who spoke out, including former Labour general secretary Iain McNicol, broke non-disclosure agreements to do so.

Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson said the revelations were "harrowing".

ANTISEMITISM I N EUROPE
DW Documentary 2018 (42.25)

Has antisemitism returned to Europe? Our documentary asks: what is it like to be a Jew in Germany, Poland and France today?

Fear has returned to Europe. Jewish people are afraid of attacks in the street and their children report bullying at school. Cemeteries have been desecrated and hate slogans chanted at parades. Reporters Andreas Morell and Johanna Hasse set out to investigate Europe’s reawakened nationalism and find rising anti-Semitism, especially in Poland. Why does anti-Semitism still exist in society? Why are some prejudices apparently impossible to eradicate? France has even witnessed violent attacks against Jews in recent years, which has led to an increase in emigration of French Jews to Israel. The finger of blame for this new anti-Semitism is usually pointed at Muslims. Morell and Hasse talk to historians and philosophers such as Georges Bensoussan and Elisabeth Badinter, as well as with Rabbi Michel Serfaty, who has tried to mediate between the religions for many years. But when they return to Germany, they realize the same problems exist here too. Perhaps Germany has been too preoccupied with finding solutions and dealing with the idea that anti-Semitism is an immutable problem instead of a social challenge to be confronted. The documentary is an inventory of anti-Semitism in Europe, a film about people caught between despair and hope, and resignation and resistance.

IS EUROPE FAILING TO COUNTER
ANTI-SEMITISM? |
DW News, 2019  (20.17)
In France, a surge in anti-Semitic violence and hate speech has caused members of the Jewish community to fear for their safety. French President Emmanuel Macron has made a very public show of condemning the crimes, which include vandalism of cemeteries, online harassment and physical attacks. Elsewhere too, many Jews increasingly feel under threat. Rising numbers of anti-Semitic crimes and violent attacks in Germany are causing alarm in Jewish communities, and prompted the Central Council of Jews in Germany to call for stronger action by police and politicians.

WHAT IS ANTISEMITISM AND WHAT ROLE DID IT PLAY IN NAZI GERMANY?

HOW CAN WE TEACH AND EXPLAIN TO STUDENTS THE CONCEPT OF ANTISEMITISM?

Antisemitism did not begin when Adolf Hitler came to power in January 1933. Antisemitism had long been entrenched in Germany and other European countries, and Jews for many centuries had been victims of widespread hatred and suspicion. This video works together with Lesson 2 of the Echoes and Reflections educational program in order to enhance the teacher's' understanding of the subject and to give practical, pedagogical approaches to use when teaching the subject to students. We present the different forms antisemitism has taken over the centuries and the innovations brought to antisemitism by the Nazis in order to better explain the historical context of the rise of racial antisemitic ideology.

UNDERSTANDING ANTISEMITISM -
Deborah Lipstadt
How To: Academy 2019 (1.08.01)

Deborah Lipstadt’s trial against Nazi sympathiser David Irving was a landmark victory for social justice and historical truth. But now anti-Jewish violence is back in the headlines. She joined the How To: Academy to help us understand why – and what we can do about it.

In this conversation with BBC NewsNight's Emily Maitlis,  Deborah explores the root causes of antisemitism's resurgence. Should we understand this new anti-Jewish violence as a return to the brutality of the 1930s? Does anti-Semitism come from the far-right or far-left? Is anti-Zionism distinct from anti-Semitism? Are there different kind of anti-Semites? And what can be
done to combat this extremely
damaging racist ideology?

IS IT ANTISEMITIC

Deborah Lipstadt
How To: Academy, 2019 (4.55)

In this short film, historian Deborah Lipstadt explores the difference between antisemitism and
legitimate criticism of Israel.

THE RESURGENCE OF ANTI-SEMITISM: ALARM IN FRANCE OVER INCREASING ATTACKS, VIOLENT RHETORIC
FRANCE 24 English, 2019. (44.53)
Is France becoming more anti-Jewish or has hate speech become more uninhibited? After some Yellow Vests hurled abuse at Jewish intellectual Alain Finkielkraut, people rally in Paris against anti-Semitism. In France anti-Semitic incidents rose 74% in 2018. Is social media enabling hate speech and fostering a culture of violence? Is that violence born from a changing world order, weaker institutions like trade unions and local government that used to channel grievances and tone down extremes?
